Fishing has picked up over the past week. We are seeing good numbers of Lake Trout and have heard reports of some Kings being caught.

The last couple of years have been a whirlwind because of Covid and my move from Leland to Traverse City. With all of that behind us, I am hoping for a normal year.
My first year chartering in Traverse City was amazing. I never canceled a trip because of weather, did not have any one get sick and caught fish on every trip. The other plus was not having to fish in high waves which is real difficult and not seeing my customers have to pay $ 5 a fish for cleaning. Seeing some of my past customers was fantastic, and the introduction of new people to my business was great.
The boat is prepped for launch and I am anticipating a launch date within the next few days. Yes, there is fishing this early. We will be ready to fish almost immediately launch.
The salmon fishing continues to be a challenge. I always had baits out for a silver fish and my success was about the same as past years. Lake trout fishing was strong all season.
I have had to increase my rates this season because of fuel prices. My new rates are $ 500 for a party of up to four and $ 50 for each person up to 6. Rates are subject to change based on fuel prices.
Please visit our website www.far-fetched.com for more information and like us on Facebook, far fetched charters and Instagram.
I have already received numerous calls and bookings for this season. Please, if you have your plans set, why not make your reservation early. The prime time weekends and holidays will fill first. .
I continue to build my business on past clients and referrals. I hope you or a friend will have the opportunity to fish with me again this season. Please call or you can e-mail farfetched@charter.net

What a spring we have had, temps in the 80’s one day and freeze warnings on some evenings.
This spring has been one like last year when I had all the problems with the trailer and getting the boat launched. If you have not heard that story, come fish with me because it is a long one.
So after last season, a lot of care was given to the condition of the trailer, timeliness of departure to Traverse City from the pole barn. We left around 8 am headed to TC with temperature sensor in hand. The trip went without a hitch and the boat was launched after checking all fluids. Tried to start port engine several times, no luck. Tried starboard engine, battery dead. I had charged the batteries while at the pole barn. After many minutes of trying, got the port engine started and jumped to the starboard and got it running. Quick lake ride to verify operation. Back to the slip and tied up. AMEN
Went to the boat with my power washer to power wash boat. Going great, boat was dirty and really needed this. One third of the way done and the power washer quit and died. Wanted to get the boat cleaned. so off to the store and got a new power washer and got it done.
Spent several days cleaning, organizing and finding items on the boat. Seems like this is every year and I am still not done with this project.
Wanted to go fishing to check out the boat and all the systems. Again, this is a regular spring agenda item before we say we are ready to go. Pulled out of the slip and starboard transmission cable broke and we had to hand over hand to get back in the slip.
Replaced the cable and hope to get fishing this weekend and verify the other systems.
Hopefully the rest of the summer will be uneventful other that being able to carry the cooler with all the fish in it.
See you soon.

Congratulations to all, we have made it through some of the toughest times we will ever face. Pandemic, unemployment, elections, and isolation have affected all of us in some way.
As you probably know, I shut my business down last season because of covid. I felt that was the best decision regarding my health, the health of the crew and my customers.
I am ready for the new season and the new year. Both my wife and I received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, two months ago. Fortunately, no side effects and we are both doing great. The State of Michigan is constantly changing masking and gathering guidelines and we will have to follow those guidelines on the boat.
I have been working on the boat. The usual spring cleaning, waxing and getting ready. I am excited about the new season and the opportunity to do what I love, go fishing.
The new year has brought with it many changes. The first is, I will be fishing in Traverse City. A lot can be said about fishing in the bay. The water is usually not as rough as the big lake, Fish Cleaning is included in the price of the trip, coffee is available nearby, and so is parking. The fishing is great and there is the possibility of salmon when they return to the Boardman River.
I am also able to make personal decisions based on customer needs. I do not have to follow harbor procedures on fish cleaning times and times of departure. For this reason I plan on offering a totally customizable trip for my customers. What the means to you is that trip times are your decision. If you want to have breakfast, we can leave at 8. Have a morning meeting, leave at 2 pm you pick the time. I will be happy to discuss times with you based on when fishing has been the best.
The lake level has dropped from the high water levels of last year. We are probably dowm about 15 inches. What I have always said is, the fish will not have as much water to hide in.
The DNR continues to maintain the reduced number of salmon stocked in Lake Michigan.
I think the DNR has made the right moves in decreasing the amount of salmon plants to allow the alewife population to increase. Over the past several years we have seen a large increase in the amount of bait. We are still at a reduced stocking level for the next couple years, but the future looks promising.
My four hour trip rates for this season have not changed and will be $450 for a four hour trip party of up to four people. Each additional person up to 6 is $ 50.
