I told you I would let you know what happened on the first trip out this season.

 

We caught a limit of lake trout.  One of the fish was about 8 pounds.

Yup today we launched with just a few little problems.  We had some small leaks it both heat exehcangers that we managed to get under control.

 

The lake test turned out ok with good oil pressure, temps rpms etc.  We also did a series of checks for all the systems and everything seemed to be working fine.

 

The problem is with the midges.  This small flying bug is prevelant in early spring.  I tried washing the boat but when I turned around, they were back.  Fortunately, this is only about a two week problem

 

I am fishing tomorrow and will post what happened

If everything goes well we will be in the water before Memorial Day.  We still have large mounds of snow on the ground all over the county.  Lake Leelanau is still frozen and they used an ice breaker yesterday on Lake Charlevoix so the ferry could run.

 

Yes, it has been hard to get to the barn to work on the boat but the weather is supposed to warm up.

The past several days most of the boats are fishing salmon and having some reasonable success.  We had two trips yesterday and caught two in the morning and had at least two more on that we lost.  The afternoon trip we caught a good size three year old and had another on.

 

Today another charter had five salmon this morning

 

We might be seeing signs of some decent salmon fishing
